John do you mean the more likely?
And what do we mean by "best"? Best relative to what measure or value?

That is why I am in quadrant 2 the vaccine will come
I'm not as confident about the speed with which we'll get it. I'm also interested in better understanding of transmission. Once we know that better, we'll have a better understanding of activities that are/are not okay
Economic support through programs that address climate change, make communities more resilient.
To avoid answering the question… the point of sustainability is that all of these things need to be addressed simultaneously and we cannot focus on one at the expense of the others.
Public health is at the core of the other matters.
optimal fiscal management (our municipality is >70% sales tax funded)
future resilience (multi-hazard)
Bridge equitable gaps
Robust public infrastructure program, connecting public health (ala Jack's comments), jobs, economic opportunity for communities, etc. We need to avoid myopic, one-solution ideas!
Jobs in the sense of Infrastructure upgrade, modernization
Job Creation, competitiveness, renewables
job creation-new focus
Resilient cities and infrastructure
similar to Anthony Kane's response, by "optimizing fiscal management"/responsibility I meant that the municipality's goal is to balance real community needs with long-term resilience and ability to provide core services
III - Living Wage applies here too. But Governments will struggle to afford it.
III and IV - more distributed living. Implication for cities. an exodus.
Regional Centers of Excellance
policy maker: re-think revenue/funding structures to identify more secure and consistent/reliable sources
Increase remote services
cut a lot of unwanted costs and maintain profits so that you can still employ all the staff
Invest in younger people and digitisation
Get a lot better and doing our work without travel
rethink about the way we do business
Establish clean environment at work. Allow more staff to continue to work from home.
Strategy is difficult. Focus on local driven decisions.
strengthen business alliances / supporting services
My firm - not in the engineering space right now. Policy makers - broaden criteria for spending, ISI- ADVOCATE for broad infrastructure spending criteria, show benefits!
policy: reinforce projects that deliver long term 'carbon neutral' infrastructure while supplying short term jobs
isi: adovacate for stimulus package include provisions for sustainability and resiliency
Invest in social infrastructures - schools, hopsitals, etc
Improve connectivity in rural areas; invest in green jobs;
focus on emerging technology in the long term
invest in healthcare system, reduce waste and use P3 financing for future projects
create better messaging about what services municipalities should be providing and get the public on board with prioritizing
Invest in universal healthcare system
Local solutions mandates
create more projects to keep the economy going through stimulus packages and invest in sustainable and resilient infra
support coordination between regional governments and private partners to make better use of scale
Invest in training people in green jobs, public health
reward new alliances for core infrastructure services "partnerships"
reinforce local manufacturing of things like... transit vehicles
Need to continue to stimulate the economy through infrastructure projects/programs
Have to leave to attend another meeting. Many thanks
Focus on a national policy for transportation systems to improve a clean environment, i.e., clean room type approach, UV, improved HVAC systems.
ISI: facilitate connecting public and private entities with complementary interests/needs
agreed with floren's point
Provide support to companies/government interested in this transition.
promote term limits for elected officials is the US
Ranked Choice Voting for all elections (because it tends to weed out big money, and find the place where most people agree)
ISI: provide public-facing justifications for implementing long-term sustainability/resilience programs and projects, and take an active role in advocating as Meg said (often the public doesn't trust the municipality to use their dollars wisely and face a lot of criticism)
Given the pain of a Quadrant 3, creative thinking around jobs will be very beneficial. Roberto's thoughts around social infrastructure put to work on multibenefit public infrastructure. NOT business as usual...
What Floren said!
Also, THANK YOU Harvard! Really neat to see you leading collaboration on this. I regret having to miss the first half of this.
Ditto to Floren! Love the interactive nature of this session, and as usual, John has made us think deeply about solutions! Thanks all.
Thank you John, Spiro, and Judith!
Thank you john. thanks to Spiro and Judith for organizing this
