The documentary film “Bending the Arc” on Paul’s work in Haiti and beyond is currently on Netflix in the US (possibly elsewhere as well, given the occasion)

Thank you for this event. My first summer of fieldwork was a summer spent in Haiti and I was struck by the poverty unlike anything I had seen … as well as the indomitable spirit of the Haitian people. Paul has done amazing work in intervening in this context and others. What an example of a human being.

Thank you all, so very much, for these extraordinary glimpses into Paul’s life and legacy -- including his roadmap(s), as Joia has put it, for all the work ahead. Privileged to join all of you in mourning his loss and celebrating his life.

02:25:57
Thank you all for such insightful reflections

02:29:35
So many beautiful reflections here. Thank you all for sharing. I feel so fortunate to be able to use Paul’s ideas and accomplishments to inspire my own students in Global Health to carry on his legacy and the legacy of this community in their own lives and work into the future.

An important point to mention is that Paul was scientist

02:51:25
it is important to continue with Paul legacy by continue developing social medicine by using science

02:51:52
Agree, Christophe

02:52:19
Gratitude to Mary-Jo and Byron for teaching and training Paul, and then all of us younger generations. He used to tell stories about his grad student days with you he believed in our non-blood kinship with our radically generous and caring mentors. It’s frightening to lose him because many of us feel we need to step up to the plate and take on more, earlier than we thought we could or would. But that is the reciprocal gift and that is what he wanted. He had infinite love and patience and close readership and medical teaching for so many of us, it’s like losing a parent far too soon. A moral parent, an intellectual parent, a personal parent, an ideological parents.

02:52:58
Well put, Darja

02:53:47
Thank you, Sadeq, Byron, Mary-Jo, Michael, everyone

02:53:51
Thank you all! See you soon.

02:54:02
Thanks you Erica
