Is there something unique/singular about genetic material as things that may or may not come under patent protection or private ownership that makes it unlike anything else? It seems to be both something physical that is within us, but on the other hand it is informational as Prof Fisher mentioned. Are there analogs that can help us to frame questions about the propertization of such material? Or does genetic material raise completely new legal and ethical questions?
