When It's Darkness on the Delta
W. Ralph Eubanks is a visiting professor and writer-in-residence at the University of Mississippi, where he is affiliated with the Center for the Study of Southern Culture. He is writing a book that weaves together personal history, archival research, reporting, blues and popular culture, and interviews with current Delta residents to tell the region’s history and explore why many residents of this iconic region of Mississippi persist in trying to transform a place that has been deemed broken and beyond repair.

The Julia S. Phelps Annual Lecture in the Arts and Humanities was established to honor the late Julia S. Phelps, longtime instructor in the Radcliffe Seminars, and is supported by the generous contributions of her family, friends, and colleagues.
